UHBP was honored to participate in the Swim for Jenny event hosted by YMCA of South Florida, an initiative dedicated to promoting water safety and preventing drownings in Florida communities and beyond.
As part of our commitment to teach all kids to be safe around the water, the YMCA offers 5 Days of FREE SWIM LESSONS each year to children and adults in the community. During the Swim for Jenny Week, they are taught how to be comfortable in the water and use basic swimming skills and techniques. Skills that could be the difference between life and death.
Co-author Finley Jackson joined the event to sign copies of Take a Breath, Seth!, our children’s book that teaches kids about the dangers of breath-holding games in a way they can understand and remember. Attendees had the chance to meet Finley and learn more about this important safety message.
UHBP Executive Director Britt Jackson also spoke at the event, sharing with families, staff, and community members about the dangers of prolonged underwater breath-holding—highlighting that even strong swimmers are at risk. She encouraged everyone to support the Take a Breath, Seth! initiative to help spread awareness and save lives.
This event was a wonderful extension of our ongoing partnership with YMCA South Florida, where for the past three years we’ve collaborated on a signage campaign to educate members about the risks of underwater hypoxic blackout (UHB). YMCA South Florida continues to set the standard for aquatic safety, and we’re proud to work together to protect swimmers of all ages.
